The brand of food from Cordyceps Hector of Lavite Co., Ltd. is one of the outstanding projects of the Startup Vietnam 2018 voting program organized by VnExpress newspaper. After nearly 2 years on the market, the brand is loved by many consumers because of its convenience, efficiency and reasonable price. Few people know, behind this brand is the unanimity of 4 women 8x. Fate has connected them together to ignite the fire of faith in quality health care products "made in Vietnam".
Having been in the same boat, everyone must row in the same direction
Hello leaders of Hector. Today only 2 out of 4 sisters were present. What chance did you two meet?
Trang La: Hello readers of Marketing & Family. Our core team has 4 members: Phu Bui, Lua Dang, Tuyet Nguyen and me – Trang La. Today, only me and Ms. Tuyet Nguyen were present. The other two sisters, 1 sister is stuck in the US because of Covid-19, 1 sister has an unexpected job at the factory.
At first, all four sisters were strangers. In 2015, Trang was contacted by admin fanpage Tony in the morning to connect the production team to bring products to the SECC exhibition. Since then, Trang has met 3 more sisters who are also production and business people.
Everyone joined hands to support and research new products based on Ms. Tuyet's medical knowledge, Ms. Phu's cordyceps mushroom farm, Ms. Lua's distribution experience and the available equipment factory Trang. Each person has a strength, so Hector was born.

4 people are co-founders. Everyone has their own opinion and point of view. How do all agree and make decisions?
Trang La: It is true that if the company only has 1 founder, it will be less… messy. Here we have 4 co-founders. I joke that everyone has "crazy" blood in them. So often arguing, commenting, criticizing, arguing all day.
Among the 4 people there is an agreement on choosing a leader. After every strategy, idea, plan meeting, the leader will make the final decision based on the majority. The rest of the members will have to follow through even though their opinions may not match the leader's. Having sat in the same boat, we have to agree to row in the same direction.
Looking back at the past time, where did the boat of all 4 sisters go?
Tuyet Nguyen: Although it has only been on the market for 2 years, the positive feedback from customers makes everyone excited and has more confidence and motivation to try harder. As during the Covid-19 outbreak, our sales skyrocketed.
At a time when everyone is looking for tonics, strengthening resistance, preventing diseases, Hector cordyceps products are on the list of many people to buy. That is the surface advantage. But at the core, we pride ourselves on providing consumers with 100% high quality domestic products equivalent to imported goods.

Every product is made with passion
What are the development goals of the whole team in the future?
Tuyet Nguyen: The group set a goal in the first 5 years to be present throughout Vietnam. At the moment, we only focus on direct sales with more than 1,000 individual retailers. This number is still quite small. But that's a big leap in 2020. We're going to continue to push it forward.
In the near future, we will also work with supermarket chains. Here, we can connect with a large number of fixed customers in each supermarket. I believe I am on the right track.
Why do people choose to sell through individual retailers?
Tuyet Nguyen: We trade in nourishing and health care products. The most effective way to reach customers will come from sharing and word of mouth. 90% of our current retailers started out as trial customers. They have experienced the product, found it really effective, they "told" their relatives and friends to buy and use. Since then they have become distributors of Hector.
Is the fact that customers still believe in imported goods a challenge for the whole team?
Trang La: It's true that the mentality of being born abroad is still common. But if I have the right mentality that Vietnamese goods are of equal or even better quality than foreign ones, then why not buy domestic ones!
I believe deep down in everyone's heart there is national pride. The problem is how do I suggest it. For example, Korea is famous for ginseng. Koreans themselves are also proud that their ginseng is the best. It was the Korean people who contributed to effectively spreading information about the nation's ginseng. Vietnam has not been able to do this.
Thus, Vietnamese people need to have more faith in domestic goods. And domestic businesses themselves also need to do the best they can to produce quality products!
Thank you both for sharing. Wish Hector Cordyceps more and more success.
